Another Shot At NCLB
Newsweek has decried the loss of creativity in today’s youth. Now, Peter Pappas, in his excellent blog, “Copy Paste,” also laments the seeming death of student creativity, and he lays the blame squarely on No Child Left Behind. The reliance on high-stakes testing has reduced many educators to shrinking the curriculum to little more than those subjects that will be tested by the state and reported to the media. Drill and kill, as many educators refer to what they are forced to do with students, leaves little room for creativity, let alone the arts, music, and in some cases, social studies.
Little wonder veteran teachers are furious with our government’s interference in the educational process. Don’t get me started…
